Maintenance or Breakdown of Your Vehicle During the MCO period

Q: What happens if I don’t start my car for a week?

A: The battery can run-out, the fuel can start deteriorating and there can be condensation in the engine and gas tank if the humidity is high. Driving the car and adding air if necessary, will usually make the tires round again, but letting the vehicle sit for extended periods on underinflated tires can cause permanent flat spots that you will be able to feel and hear when you drive.

Q: How do I maintain my car battery?

A: Do start your car every 2 days if it is continuously not used. Rev the engine for 5 minutes then leave it to idle for 5 to 10 minutes, the alternator will recharge the battery.

Q: All the indicator lights are lighted-up, but why won’t my car start?

A: If your headlights can be switched onbut your car won’t crank, that means that your battery is charged, but the problem may lay with either the starter or ignition. If the starter or ignition is the problem, a starter engine can be jumped by using a charged battery.

Q: What are the possible causes my car won’t start?

A: Here are the possible causes of why your car won’t start and what you can do

  1. Empty Fuel Tank – Your fuel gauge on the dashboard will indicate E (Empty)

What you can do:

Fuel up

  1. Dead battery – When you turn the ignition on and nothing happens, headlight won’t turn on or dim or radio won’t turn on are telltale signs of a dead battery

What you can do:

  • Ensure there is another car available.
  • Get your jumper cables.
  • Place both cars together in Park or Neutral position and ensure the second car engine is turned off.
  • Attach one of the red clips to the positive terminal of your battery.
  • Attach the other red clip to the positive terminal of the other car.
  • Attach one of the black clips to the negative terminal on the other battery.
  • Attach the last black clip to an unpainted metal surface on your car that isn’t near the battery.
  • Start your car.

If the above doesn’t work, the following could be the cause of your car not starting:

  1. Defective ignition switch
  2. Faulty starter
  3. Clogged fuel filter

What you can do:

Call the towing service to tow your vehicle to the workshop

Q: How would I know is my car has enough coolant?

A: Ensure the temperature of your car engine is cool (Preferably in the morning before you start your car). Commence checking;

  • Check the radiator spare tank. You will find 2 levels (MIN and MAX). Ensure the coolant is at the MAX line.
  • Open the radiator cap and ensure the coolant is full right to the top of the radiator.

 Q: How will I know if I have enough engine oil?

 A: You may perform the following checks;

  • Park your vehicle on a leveled surface and wait for the engine to cool down. (Preferably in the morning before you start your car)
  • Locate your dipstick, which is usually found on top of your oil tank. Typically, your dipstick is with a bright yellow ring.
  • Pull your dipstick all the way out and wipe it clean with a rag or cloth.
  • Insert the dipstick all the way in, and pull it out make sure your dipstick reading is on F. (Your dipstick reading should range from L to F. L being low, and F being full)

Q: What should I do when the indicator on my dashboard shows my Engine Temperature Is High?

A: You should perform the following steps:

  • Pullover to a safe location and turn off the engine.
  • Do not open the hood until the car has completely cooled down or the temperature gauge has moved from hot to cool.
  • Check the coolant (also called antifreeze) level in the radiator. Look in the owner’s manual if you are unsure where the coolant reservoir tank is.
  • Make sure the radiator cap is cool before opening it. Slowly twist it off with a towel and beware of any hot steam. If needed, fill coolant to the top of the radiator. Put the radiator cap back on.
  • Be sure the upper or lower radiator hose and any of the heater hoses have not been blocked, disconnected or burst.
  • Restart the engine.
  • Carefully monitor the temperature gauge. If you see it crossing the optimal mark, pull over to a safe location and turn the engine off and call the towing service to tow your vehicle to the workshop.
What Are The Benefits Of A Car Inspection?

Next to owning a home or paying for education, buying a car is among the biggest purchases a person makes. However, despite the huge investment numerous people take a passive approach when it comes to vehicle maintenance. While regular oil changes are great, they only go so far in keeping your vehicle in tip-top shape. To ensure vehicle safety and to prevent the need for costly car repair, car inspections are key.

Here you’ll find the key benefits of a car inspection;

  • Peace of Mind

We rely on our cars daily to get our families and ourselves commuting from one point to another. Investing time and money into car inspection is a proactive step in reducing your chances of facing the inevitable of a car breaking down. Obtain peace of mind knowing your daily routine will be uninterrupted when your vehicle runs smoothly for you and your passengers, keeping everyone safe.

  • Money in Your Pocket

Many car issues build up over time. This may be anticipated and identified therefore fixed to avoid massive trouble. But these little fixable problems aren’t always easily detected. A vehicle inspection carried out by an experienced and certified technician can detect even the slightest complication long before it progresses to attention-grabbing sounds or a lapse in function. There is a minimal fee to vehicle inspections however identifying small issues before they become problems will save you big money in the long run.

ALWAYS HAVE AN INSPECTION PRIOR TO PURCHASING A RECONDITIONED / USED CAR

Car inspections are considered preventative maintenance, and we strongly recommend having them twice annually. But it’s also important to have an inspection prior to heading out on a road trip, after an accident (no matter how minor), and prior to purchasing a used car.

We’ll emphasize here that it’s especially important to have a used car inspected prior to purchase to identify any underlying issues it may have. This is a common practice as even a test drive can leave large issues unnoticed, and the last thing you want is to invest in a vehicle that becomes a money pit. Generally, sellers who are being upfront about the condition of a car for sale will have no issue with you getting it inspected before committing to the sale.

WHAT DOES A 18 POINT CAR INSPECTION INCLUDE?
